One more day to go!

Today in class we finished the density vocabulary:

Density Vocab

We also worked on finishing our egg drop lab report. Remember, the final draft needs to be dropped into my drop box and the journal and rough draft needs to be turned into your period's box.

Homework: None :)

How Dense is it?

Today during block we will explore what density is. How do you calculate density?

Remember the triangle? Well, the triangle works for Density equations also.
D= Density M=Mass V=Volume

Example: If a bar of gold has a mass of 38 g and a density of 19 g/cm3, what is the volume of the bar of gold?

Equation: Volume = mass/density

Volume = 38 g = 2 cm3
________
19g/cm3

Homework
p. 131 Do practice problems 1-2 Show Work!

Remember, when the amount of water displaced has the same weight as the object in the water it floats in the middle. This is called neutral buoyancy.

Buoyancy

Today in class we finished up the "will it float or sink?" activity.

Similarities for the objects that floated were: all are roundish, all are hollow or have pockets of air in them, and all objects are soft.

Similarities for the objects that sank were: all are made of metal, all are solid

Homework:
Read pg 130-133 in the Science Textbook. Write 4-5 sentences on "What is density?"

Done with Forces, on to Buoyancy and Density

Our egg drop lab reports should be completed next week!
We are on to buoyancy and density. Today we predicted and tested whether different objects float or sink in water. There were some surprises!
